2015
Foundation and Vision Setting
WOL Global was officially established in Geneva, Switzerland, by a coalition of seven founding members representing diverse sectors including international development, technology, education, and labor policy.Â
2017
Scaling Operations and Proving Impact
Building on the success of our pilot initiatives, AWOL expanded operations to twelve countries across three continents. We developed our flagship Skills-to-Employment framework, a comprehensive methodology that combines technical training.
2019
Innovation and Digital Transformation
Recognizing the potential of technology to democratize access to opportunities, AWOL launched the Global Talent Platform—a sophisticated digital ecosystem connecting skilled workers with employers worldwide.Â
2021
Resilience During Global Crisis
The COVID-19 pandemic tested organizations worldwide, but AWOL adapted rapidly to meet unprecedented challenges. We pivoted our entire training infrastructure to virtual delivery within weeks, launched emergency upskilling programs for workers.

Global Leader in Workforce Development
Today, AWOL Global operates in 47 countries with a team of over 800 professionals and a network of 5,000+ partner organizations. We've supported more than 250,000 individuals in securing meaningful employment and advancing their careers.
Why AWOL Was Founded
In 2015, a group of international development experts, labor economists, and social entrepreneurs gathered in Geneva, united by a shared concern: traditional workforce development models were failing the people who needed them most. AWOL Global was born from this moment of reckoning—a commitment to reimagine how the world approaches employment, skills development, and economic opportunity in the 21st century.

We witnessed millions of talented individuals in emerging economies who possessed skills but lacked access to meaningful employment. Meanwhile, organizations worldwide struggled to find the diverse talent they desperately needed. This disconnect demanded a solution that transcended borders and barriers.
